We recently celebrated Easter here at Head of Christiana. On Easter
Sunday, we hear once again the proclamation, “Do not be afraid! I know
that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has
been raised as he said.” (Matt. 28:5-6). In Christian tradition, Easter lasts
more than just a day – it lasts for an entire season until Pentecost.

During this season on the church calendar, we reflect upon Jesus’ resurrection
and what it means for our lives as Christians.
Why is Jesus’ resurrection so important? First, Jesus’ death and resurrection give us
freedom from sin and death. 1 Corinthians 15:55-57 says, “Death has been swallowed up
in victory.” “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” The sting of
death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the
victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Second, Jesus’ resurrection gives us the promise
of eternal life. Jesus says in John 11:25-26, “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who
believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me
will never die.” Third, Jesus’ resurrection gives us the power to live the kind of righteous
life God intended us to live. Colossians 3:9-10 tells us that in Christ, we have “stripped off
the old self with its practices and have clothed yourselves with the new self, which is
being renewed in knowledge according to the image of its creator.” In our new self in
Christ, we can live a life of compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. In
Christ, we can bear with one another, forgive one another, and live in love with one
another (Col. 3:12-14).
Let us strive to live the kind of resurrection life made possible to us in Jesus Christ,
at Easter and always!
Blessings,
