Dear HoC members and friends,
This has been my catchphrase throughout this pandemic…think
like a deacon. Of course, we’re blessed to have ordained deacons in our
church who fulfill the particular calling God placed on them to perform
works of service for our members and friends, as well as those in our
broader community. Yet, we shouldn’t place all the work of caring for
one another in the church and community on our deacons alone. We’re
all called to love and serve one another in Christ. Especially now, during
this pandemic.

This is a unique situation, requiring us all to step up and “think like a deacon’ and consider all the ways we can be of extra support to one another during this time. In this spirit, I will be starting a summer sermon series on the “one another” passages of the Bible. Did you know that there are 59 “one another” passages in the Bible? (At least, according to the internet, anyway.) We’re not going to cover all of these passages, but we will look at several in particular that are key to us being the body of Christ to one another.

Passages like:

Love one another (John 13:34)
Serve one another (Galatians 5:13)
Pray for one another (James 5:16)
Forgive one another (Colossians 3:13)
Submit to one another (Ephesians 5:21)

This series will hopefully get us thinking of practical ways the Holy Spirit may be
calling us to “think like a deacon” and go the extra distance in taking care of one another during this unprecedented time.
Friends, let’s continue to “think like a deacon” as we learn about, and hopefully put into better practice the Bible’s “one another” passages!

Blessings,

Pastor Hilary
