Friends, as we are in summer enjoying all the fresh, delicious produce of
the season, let us consider how we may grow spiritually in our faith and life
together. I found this wonderful poem all about planting a garden for God’s
glory and our spiritual growth, and I thought I would share it all with you
in this summer season:

Planting Your Spring Garden (Attributed to Langston Hughes)

For the garden of your daily living:

Plant three rows of peas
Peace of mind
Peace of heart
Peace of soul

Plant four rows of squash:
Squash gossip
Squash indifference
Squash grumbling
Squash selfishness

Plant four rows of lettuce:
Lettuce be faithful
Lettuce be kind
Lettuce be patient
Lettuce really love one another

No garden is complete without turnips:
Turnip for meetings
Turnip for service
Turnip to help one another

To conclude our garden we must have thyme:
Thyme for each other
Thyme for family
Thyme for friends

Water freely with patience                                   There is much fruit in your garden
and cultivate with love.                                         because you reap what you sow.

Blessings,

Pastor Hilary
