November is upon us! Thanksgiving is coming up this month. This is a wonderful holiday for getting together with family and friends, sharing a delicious meal, and giving thanks for all the blessings we have in our lives. Thanksgiving is a time for us to reflect on all we have been given and express gratitude to God for God’s wonderful gifts to us. Thanksgiving can also be a time to give back to others out of gratitude for the bountiful gifts we ourselves have received. This month at Head of Christiana, there are several opportunities we have to worship, give thanks, and share our gifts with others.
Newark area faith leaders from a variety of traditions will be sponsoring their annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Service on Tuesday, November 20th at 7:30 PM at Newark United Methodist Church. This is a wonderful time to come together in unity with others and give thanks as a community for all our blessings. You are all invited to join in this celebration of giving thanks!
We’re also going to be collecting food for those who are in need in our community. Our annual Thanksgiving Table food drive will be taking place throughout the month of November. Watch for more details and this newsletter for how you can participate.
We will also be wrapping up our fall stewardship drive. This is a good opportunity to reflect upon the blessings of this church and make a financial commitment to our work and ministry for the coming year. You may also want to reflect on how God is leading you to share your time and talents in new ways. Your generous gifts make all we do possible, and we are grateful for each of you! Thank you!
Diana Butler Bass, in her latest book, Grateful: The Transformative Power of Giving Thanks, writes “Gratitude is not about stuff. Gratitude is the emotional response to the surprise of our very existence, to sensing that inner light and realizing the astonishing sacred, social, and scientific events that brought each one of us into being. We cry out like the psalmist, “I am fearfully and wonderfully made!” (Ps. 139:14).”
Let us thank God for all God’s wonderful gifts!
Blessings,
Pastor Hilary
